Sports Solidarity PBLLC is an early-stage for profit company revolutionizing the way workers organize and engage in collective action across sports. We are a professional services firm focused on serving the unique needs of athletes, coaches, officials, and other workers across the sports industry. This may include helping sports workers organize, negotiate, and/or advise on a variety of labor matters, across multiple sports and leagues, both new and existing. The company is led by well-connected former athletes with experience in sports labor, including the MLBPA, NBPA, UFPA, and others.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Vice President of Finance & Operations to join our company on the leadership team. This role will be instrumental in driving our financial strategy, providing critical insights into our evolving business model, and supporting various growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess skillsets to be effective at financial modeling, business planning, strategy formation, and analytics, as well as have a passion for the sports industry. We are a lean team, and this role will be cross-functional in nature and, thus, is best suited for a proactive individual who can be effective working both independently and as part of a team; importantly, this person must also be comfortable interacting with clients and partners. This role requires both a tactical and strategic thinker for whom no task is too small.
Responsibilities
● Maintain and adapt comprehensive company financial model to support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
● Lead the financial planning and budgeting process, including revenue forecasting, expense management, and capital expenditure planning.
● Perform ad hoc analyses and convey broader take-aways from all financial analyses, including any qualitative conclusions or recommended actions.
● Prepare and analyze financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closes and related performance metrics and reporting packages in a timely manner.
● Provide financial support for business development activities, including partnerships and fundraising. This includes determining which parties to approach, creating assets to help in communications, and facilitating and tracking associated meetings.
● Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members including in legal, communications, and organizing (and outside partners).
● Take ownership of all company legal, tax, and regulatory filings, and ensure timely actions across various jurisdictions. Ensure at all times that company is compliant with all local, state, and Federal filings and regulations.
● Administer and ensure accurate regular payroll runs, AP/AR management, and ongoing oversight of relevant expenses and services both for need and timely, accurate payment.
● Support with investor relations, as needed; maintain relationships with and resolve any issues with banking and credit partners.
● Bring forth recommendations to enhance operations of the company, including introducing better processes, new technology, or anything else which may improve the company’s function.
● Overall, be a thought partner to the President and others on the team, and voice opinions on a variety of matters, including outside of finance and operations.
Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field preferred; MBA preferred.
● Minimum of 3 years of detailed FP&A experience, preferably gained in an investment banking, corporate finance consulting, or internal corporate finance setting; plus, 1-2+ years experience in a finance/operations role at a start-up is a valuable bonus.
● Must have extensive 3-statement modeling experience, including detailed bottom-up support, and at least an intermediate understanding of accounting, as there is no internal Controller or outside accounting firm to collaborate with currently.
● Advanced knowledge and extensive usage of Google Sheets/MS Excel and, more broadly, other Google Workspace/MS Office products.
● Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability and confidence to effectively communicate complex financial information and recommendations to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the flexibility to multitask, pivot, or adapt as necessary.
● Understanding of and/or experience working with member-based or labor organizations is a plus, though not required.
● Experience playing sports collegiately and/or professionally is a plus, though not required.
